A rare Catalan (Barcelona) façon de Venise cruet or apothecary flask, late 16th century

In distinctive straw-yellow coloured metal, the ovoid body striped with fine vertical latticinio threads and with a slender neck enclosed at the top where a blue glass trail and blue finial are applied, the double loop handle and flattened pointed spout also with fine white stripes, a trailed ring foot at the base and a further blue glass trail on the spout tip, 16cm high

A very similar example with latticinio stripes, in the Collection of The Hispanic Society of America is illustrated by Alice Wilson Frothingham, Hispanic Glass (1941), p.40, fig.27. Another in the Bayerischen Nationalmuseum, Munich is illustrated by Rainer Ruckert, Die Glassammling (1982), vol.1, pl.X, fig.123. Others of the same distinctive form just in clear glass or with white trailed loops are in the collection at Veste Coburg see Anna-Elisabeth Theuerkauff-Liederwald's Catalogue (1994), pp.381-2, figs.411-414.
