Paramount, 1968. Mimeographed manuscript, Final draft screenplay by Roman Polanski, 167 pp, July 24, 1967, bound with brads in blue-green Paramount wrappers, annotated in pencil. WITH: Typed letter signed ("John") in ballpoint pen, 1 p, February 5, 1969, on "The Husbands Co." stationery, with original transmittal envelope with "John Cassavettes" in ballpoint pen to verso. With a pressbook to the film.
This script to Roman Polanski's screenplay adaptation of Ira Levin's horror bestseller has pencil lines through various scenes and other annotations, indicating it was likely used by an unknown member of the film's cast or crew. In the letter included here, John Cassavettes, the film's male lead, writes warmly to his co-star, Ruth Gordon, and her husband, playwright Garson Kanin, saying in part: "You were, as I knew you would be, just sensational in Rosemary's Baby. Just add that to a long list of superb performances." Gordon received an Academy Award® nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the film.
