A Roy Rogers "Nudie's" fringed Western shirt, 1950s
A blue Western-style shirt laced up in the front from top to bottom, with a different striped fabric on the shoulders which leads down the front and back of the shirt to a rhinestone-studded horseshoe enclosing a horse's head, padded shoulders, rhinestone-eyed steers on each side of the collar and on each cuff, deep pink fringe from front to back and down the sleeves, with each sleeve having 6 mother-of-pearl buttons, and a side zipper closure, bearing an interior cream-colored label inscribed, "King of the Cowboys" (the last 3 letters of "Rogers" can be seen on this tag but the others have worn away), and another label inscribed, "Nudie's Rodeo Tailors / North Hollywood / California." Nudie's was famous for being the first company to sew rhinestones onto western clothing. A feast for the eyes, Rogers wore this garment, among other places, on the cover of a Dell comic book solely devoted to him, an original copy of which accompanies this lot.
