A group of Tod Browning treatments
Comprising a mimeographed manuscript, The Mad Doctor, treatment by Allan Dwan, 36 pp, housed in in a brown folder with title and author's credit on label to cover; 2 typed carbon treatments for Equilibrium by Tod Browning, June 10, 1941, 52 pp each, both housed in blue Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer wrappers, with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer script department labels to front wrappers; 2 typed carbon synopsis treatments of Majestic Hotel by Tod Browning, February 25, 1941, both 45 pp, housed in blue Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer wrappers; 3 typed carbon memos regarding Miracles for Sale from Browning to J. J. Cohn and Carey Wilson, 12 pp total, June 23, July 1, July 10, 1939; and 5 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer reader's reports on various projects. Miracles for Sale was Browning's final film; his detailed, at times passionate, script memos to the film's producer, J. J. Cohn, and writer and producer Carey Wilson give a rare glimpse into his storytelling process. Equilibrium is an unfilmed Browning project about a master aerialist, set in his films' familiar circus milieu. Majestic Hotel is an unproduced adaptation of the Hungarian novel Family Hotel about a master magician involved in intrigue in the world of stage magic. The Mad Doctor is another abortive project, written by director Allan Dwan, about a madman, Dr. X, bent on ending all war by assassinating world leaders. The reader's report on Superstition concerns Scotland Yard detectives trying to track down jewel thieves posing as mediums.
