A Tod Browning owned screenplay of Mata Hari
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1931. Mimeographed manuscript, screenplay by Benjamin Glazer and Leo Birinski, 169 pp, May 4, 1931, bound with brads in blue Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer wrapper, with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Script Department label to front wrapper, with a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inter-office memo from B. P. Fineman to Hunt Stromberg, dated June 5, 1931. Mata Hari was likely among many properties that Tod Browning was presented with at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer for consideration. It was filmed without Browning's involvement in 1931 and starred Greta Garbo as the notorious spy. The memo in this lot reads: "Attached is the first script of MATA HARI, / which I would appreciate your reading over the / week end (sic). The dialogue is very crude in spots, / and is not to be regarded as final."
