A Dagon idol figure from Samson and Delilah
Paramount, 1949. Ceramic figure on base, painted black with gold accents. A miniature, likely a maquette, of the massive statue that looms over the temple of the pagan god Dagon in this Cecil B. DeMille biblical epic's climax, when Samson destroys the temple, sending the statue toppling down. An area around the figure's right foot has cracked off and been neatly repaired, mirroring the way the larger model of the statue crumbles in the film. A similar Dagon figure with a base sat on DeMille's desk for years.
