A Claudette Colbert gilt metal headdress and matching cuff worn in Cleopatra
Paramount, 1934. The striking head ornament and bracelet designed by Travis Banton for Cecil B. DeMille's production, made for Colbert as Cleopatra, the costume jewellery incorporated with emerald green molded cast resin scarabs; accompanied by a reproduction black and white film still of Colbert as the Egyptian Queen wearing the headdress and cuff.
It was Claudette Colbert's insistence that her wardrobe, as Cleopatra, be designed by Paramount's most desired costume designer, Travis Banton. Banton was responsible for some of the studios most illustrious and daring designs for actresses such as Marlene Dietrich, Carole Lombard and Mae West. Colbert refused to wear the costumes already produced for the film and would not set foot on set until Banton was brought in to work on the production.
