Paramount, 1932. A headpiece comprising a flet skull cap draped in fine chain mail with adjustable metal headband and ear flaps with laurel wreath motif; accompanied by a wooden helmet stand. Designed by Mitchell Leisen for March as Marcus Superbus in Cecil B. DeMille's production, the costume visible during Superbus' crusade to save the Christians. With black and white reproduction film still of March wearing the headpiece.
The Sign Of The Cross was one of DeMille's most sensationalist pre-Code films. The final cut included scenes of nudity, sex, violence and homosexuality. Filmed during the great depression, the director's budget was limited. Nonetheless, his costume designer Mitchell Leisen was able to produce sumptuous costumes for the epic.
