Ross Hunter's personal photographic archive
Comprising approximately 1200 black and white photographs and some color, 1940-1980, most are 8 x 10 in, with approximately twenty-five smaller and autographed photographs, 12 candids depicting behind-the-scenes images from Airport (1970) spiral-bound and dated May 6, 1969 in ink, with approximately forty 2 x 2 in color negatives of posed portrait photographs of Hunter, 1960s. Producer Ross Hunter's massive archive is mainly behind-the-scenes photographs of him at various show business events. Hunter is pictured with Rock Hudson, Sandra Dee, Bobby Darin, and Debbie Reynolds, as well as Sammy Davis, Jr. visiting the set of Imitation of Life (1959); Hunter with the cast of Flower Drum Song (1961); Julie Andrews, James Fox, and Carol Channing at the premiere of Thoroughly Modern Millie (1967); Helen Hayes and Dean Martin, related to Airport; many images from Lost Horizon (1973); and Hunter and others with the Queen at a Royal Command Performance. The earliest photographs depict Hunter as a boy and in the Navy. The autographed photographs include a signed, inscribed portrait of Irene Dunne, dated 1966.
