A 1936 book on film advertising
Advertising the Motion Picture, Quigley Publications, 1936, 4to, 490 pp, orange cloth binding, limited edition of 191 copies, hand-numbered "19" in pink ink. Quigley Publications, publisher of Motion Picture Herald and other movie magazines, released this massive, lavishly illustrated annual announcing various studios' coming attractions for 1936-1937. Printed on heavy, slick paper, it is filled with gorgeous full-color reproductions of movie posters and advertising artwork. Photographs depict numerous stars, including Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Charles Chaplin, Joan Crawford, Clark Gable, Katharine Hepburn, Jean Harlow, Shirley Temple, Deanna Durbin, and The Three Stooges. It includes artwork of Modern Times, My Man Godfrey, Follow the Fleet, Showboat, Things to Come, Mary of Scotland, and Little Lord Fauntleroy. Several pages are devoted to Walt Disney's and Max Fleischer's cartoons.
