A pair of Steve McQueen pants from Papillon
Allied Artists, 1973. Red and beige-striped rough wool pants with back buckle and front button closure and large tears on the right and left thighs, bearing a red-lettered Western Costume Co. label with the typed inscription, "2182-1 / Steve McQueen / Waist 36 / Inseam 31," with the interior waistband additionally inscribed in black ink, "Eric Fromby." These pants were apparently reused for an episode of the TV show Tales of the Gold Monkey (1982) featuring a character by that name. Based on the autobiography of French prisoner Henri Charrière, Papillon stars Dustin Hoffman and Steve McQueen as prisoners attempting to escape from the Devil's Island penal colony off French Guiana. McQueen received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Drama for his work in this film.
