A Spencer Tracy shirt and vest from Father of the Bride
MGM, 1950. A pale gold long-sleeved men's dress shirt bearing an interior label inscribed, "Tailored by J.T. Beach / Los Angeles," and a faux cross-stitch "ST" monogram in red lettering. Accompanied by a gray vest with a lining of gold silk bearing an interior cream-colored label with green letters inscribed, "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer" and "Spencer Tracy" written in black ink. Attached to the vest is a safety pin with a tag inscribed, "46-Vest / 34/33 / C.D." Director Vincente Minnelli felt Father of the Bride would completely fail without Tracy as the father; indeed, the film was a huge success largely because of the screen chemistry between Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor, who played his daughter. Tracy's understated mastery of comedy and his seemingly effortless acting skills are superbly displayed in this film, which garnered him an Academy Award® nomination for "Best Actor." Accompanied by a vintage photo of Tracy wearing the vest.
