A Buster Crabbe "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion" group of uniforms
Comprising three pairs of almost identical men's tan trousers; a tan men's military-type shirt with pockets on the front and black patches on the left sleeve with military stripes and French Foreign Legion insignia, bearing an interior label inscribed, "West Point Shirt / Military Style"; an almost identical men's tan shirt bearing a label inscribed, "Bendone / New York / Regulation Military Shirt," with the numbers, "774 / 17 / 134" stamped on the front bottom of the shirt; a tan military jacket with 4 buttons down the front and one on each of the 4 pockets in the front bearing the inscription, "Legion Etrangere (French Foreign Legion)"; and a tan boys' size canvas military shirt similar in design to that of the men's. WITH: Two French Foreign Legion hats of black, red, and gold braid, nearly identical except for one bearing the number "5" on the front (this hat is also slightly smaller) and the other bearing the French Foreign Legion insignia; 3 sets of cream-colored spats, one with laces; a pair of tan, well-worn gauntlet-type leather gloves with a pair of gray wrist-length liners with a snap closure; a scarf of tan silk; 2 French Foreign Legion patches; 4 sets of epaulets with French Foreign Legion emblems; 4 tan canvas military belts; 2 brown leather belts; and an unopened package of "Captain Gallant of the Foreign Legion Junior Hero Medals," all housed in a duffel bag bearing the tag, "Captain Gallant Wardrobe." Buster Crabbe's character of "Captain Gallant" is still remembered today as a hero to look up to. The television show, which aired on NBC from 1955-1957, followed "Captain Gallant" and the orphan boy, "Cuffy," (played by Crabbe's real life son, Cullen) as they meted out justice and kept the peace. The series spawned a line of toys such as action figures, play sets, and medals, and gave Crabbe yet another successful role with which people identified him (his others being that of an Olympic swimming champion, Flash Gordon, Buck Rogers, and Billy the Kid). Accompanied by 6 vintage photos of Crabbe and son, Cullen, wearing the costumes.
