A John Decker portrait of Rudy Vallée
Oil on canvas, signed ("John Decker") at lower right, framed with a metal plaque engraved, "Rudy Vallee / The Vagabond Lover / by / Van Dyck- 1640." A portrait of the singer in the style of the Flemish court painter Anthony Van Dyck. The title refers to Vallée's first feature film, The Vagabond Lover (1929), which spawned his hit song "I'm Just a Vagabond Lover." Decker was well known for his portraits of celebrities in the style of famous Old Master paintings.
