Inscribed "To Bill / This is one of the / books that Rudy / kept on his bedroom / bookshelf and could / be considered rare / because it is one / that he read! / Whitley House, / 1921 / Bob Florey" with an autograph letter signed ("Edith Hull") in ink, 1 leaf, 4 pp (recto and verso), May 19, 1921, Derbyshire, England, with Famous Players-Lasky Legal Department stamp to first page, in which Hull writes to Famous Players-Lasky regarding the sequel rights to her novel The Sheik. Rudolph Valentino's starring role in The Sheik (Famous Players-Lasky, 1921) made him a sensation, forever typing him in exotic roles. This is Valentino's personal copy of Edith M. Hull's novel upon which the film was based. This was acquired by producer William Self from Valentino's friend and collaborator, director Robert Florey, who describes the book's provenance in an inscription. With a Scriptorium certificate of authenticity for the Hull letter.
