A Rudolph Valentino handwritten letter to Jean Acker
Autograph letter signed ("Rodolph"), December 23, 1919, Del Monte, California, 5 pp, with original autograph envelope addressed to "Mrs. Rodolpho Valentino" at the Hotel Savoy in Los Angeles. The letter is composed on stationery of the Hotel Del Monte, a resort in Monterey, California which is now the Naval Postgraduate School. A romantic letter from Valentino to his wife, whom he had married the month prior. Addressed to "my darling little 'girl,'" Valentino writes, "I am a very very sad and heartbroken 'boy' and feel that the whole world is quite against me, because it seems that everything is against me, trying to keep me away from my adored Jean." Though it is often written that Acker regretted their marriage and that the union was never consummated, it is clear from this letter that Valentino maintained strong feelings for her in the weeks after their marriage.
Accompanied by a photograph of Jean Acker in France in 1930 and a card sent by her to William Self.
