A Golden Ticket used to promote Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
Paramount, 1971. Gold-colored foil with a scalloped edge, bearing a printed inscription reading in part, "Wonka's / Golden Ticket / Greetings to you, the finder of this / Golden Ticket, from Mr. Willy Wonka!" One of the Golden Tickets issued by candy tycoon Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder) allowing its bearer entrance into his candy factory. Director Mel Stuart kept tight controls on the production of the Golden Tickets and very few have surfaced at auction. This copy hails from the estate of Sam Alexander, noted designer, filmmaker, and visual effects artist. Mr. Alexander worked on the advertising and promotion of the feature film and Wonka branded consumer products. He was provided with the Golden Ticket to use in product insert shots and as a reference for other graphics created to promote the film and merchandise. The Ticket has some slight discoloring on the back from tape used to keep it in place during filming. The Ticket was also slightly torn while filming, and that is the reason Mr. Alexander was allowed to keep it at the end of production.
