Two Doris Day costumes from Billy Rose's Jumbo
Metro-Goldwyn Mayer, 1962. Peach-colored velvet ballet-type one-piece leotard with a bodice of rhinestones and hot pink felt in a swirly design, with a silk multi-colored sash ending in a large bow set diagonally over the bodice and a pink tulle tutu accented by rhinestones, inscribed in black ink, "Doris Day - No. 2" and in blue ink, "Alyce Allyn" on the interior zipper band. WITH: An almost identical leotard with the exception of a hot pink sash and a peach-colored tulle tutu, inscribed, "Corky Fire Proof" on the interior zipper band and with an MGM cleaning tag. Each costume comes with 2 lightweight lengths of plain tulle. Designed by Morton Haack. Accompanied by a photo of Day wearing one of the costumes. The elaborate design of these costumes speaks to the extravagant style of Billy Rose, who produced the original stage version. Directed by famed musical director, Charles Walters, the film marked the last musical Doris Day would ever make.
