A group of three early William Faulkner screenplays of The Left Hand of God

Comprising 3 mimeographed manuscripts, all titled The Left Hand of God:
First draft continuity screenplay by William Faulkner, 170 pp, 4to, Los Angeles, January 24, 1952, bound with brads in blue wrappers. WITH: Final screenplay, no writing credit (William Faulkner), 170 pp, April 16, 1952, bound with brads in beige wrappers, "Buddy Adler" written to front wrapper in pencil, annotated throughout in pencil. AND WITH: Revised final screenplay, no writing credit (William Faulkner), 140 pp, July 18, 1952, bound with brads in beige wrappers, "Buddy Adler" written to front wrapper in pencil, annotated throughout.
William Faulkner scripted Howard Hawks' films To Have and Have Not (1944) and The Big Sleep (1946) and Hawks hired him again in 1951 to adapt the novel The Left Hand of God for the screen. The first two of these drafts have Hawks' Winchester Pictures Corporation listed on their front wrappers. This story of a prisoner of war in China escaping disguised as a priest was developed by Hawks, apparently for Kirk Douglas. After several revisions by Faulkner, the project languished and Hawks later sold it to Twentieth Century-Fox, where producer Buddy Adler took it over and saw its release in 1955. The film stars Humphrey Bogart, with Alfred Hayes as its sole credited screenwriter. The William Faulkner Collection at the University of Virginia has only the April 16 version of Faulkner's work on this film.
