American Mint Green Tourmaline Carving

Dunton Gem Quarry, Newry, Oxford County, Maine

Discovered in 1898, the Dunton Gem Quarry was most actively mined in the first quarter of the last century; it reopened again briefly in the 1970s. The tourmaline used to create this attractive carving of vivid, "mint green" has excellent transparency for the species. It depicts two birds with foliage. This is an American classic noteworthy for its size, strength of color and clarity. Weighing approximately 426.5 carats (85.3 grams) and measuring 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 x 1 1/4in
