STUART DEVLIN AO CMG

Born in Geelong, Australia in 1931. Trained at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. In 1958 he won a number of scholarships including a scholarship to study silversmithing under Professor Robert Goodden at the Royal College of Art, London.
In 1963 Devlin designed the new Australian decimal coinage.
Spending two years in America he then returned to Australia. On his return to London Devlin set up a workshop in Clerkenwell in 1965. The following year he employed his first craftsman.
Stuart Devlin created new techniques and produced a wide variety of textures and filigree forms.
Between 1975 and 1985 he had a prestigious showroom in Conduit Street London.
He was Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths Company 1996 – 1997.
