Created in four sections from dark transparent ruby glass, each part cut with broad vertical flutes, the stepped pedestal, baluster body and waisted neck terminating in a rim cut with petal-shaped lobes, the vase and glass pedestal 71cm high, together with a polished red porphyry plinth, the overall height 101.5cm (5)

Footnotes

A closely related vase in the Passau Glasmuseum is illustrated by Brozová, von Buquoy and Spiegl, Das Böhmische Glas 1700-1950, Vol.II, p.89, fig.108. Here it is noted that such vases were sold from Neuwelt in 1843 and 1844 to a small number of dealers including Berens, Blumberg & Co in London and Josef Lobmeyr in Vienna. An advertising trade card of the firm of Josef Lobmeyr from this period included a vase of similar shape, apparently with gilded decoration.
