A pair of Bohemian blue overlay, Hochschnitt and intaglio carved goblets, circa 1850

The generous U shaped bowls reserved with circular panels engraved in Tiefschnitt, both with a scene of a turbaned figure on horseback rounding up a stampede, the reverse of each goblet with a panel of seven viewing lenses, the frosted ground with Hochschnitt carved foliate motifs, the stems with bulbous knops cut with oval printies above spreading petal-shaped feet cut on the underside with radiating grooves between blue medallions, 30.8cm high (2)

Footnotes

The use of Hochschnitt (high carved) foliage as a background is reminiscent of the decanter in part 1 of this collection sold in these rooms 11 December 2013, lot 13 which was attributed to Franz Paul Zach. Karl Pfohl also favoured this technique. It is very unusual to find a pair of goblets with the principal panels created as a precise mirror image of each other.
