Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1795-1875)

A bronze model of Basset Debout
dark brown patination with lighter brown high points, signed BARYE to the base, with wax inventory seal to underside, 14.5cm wide, 12cm high

Footnotes

Barye first cast this model in his own workshop in 1845, an example of this period is in the Musée du Petit Palais. Barbedienne cast numerous editions in 1877, 1887 and 1893. An example was sold at auction in the Barye Bronzes sale, Christies, New York, 25 April 2003, lot 48.
