A large Rouen faience plaque, early 18th century

Decorated in polychrome colours with elaborate chinoiserie scenes of figures in a folly river landscape, the blue-edged rim with fruit and flowers
43.5 x 58.5cm (broken in several pieces and restored, some flakes missing)

Provenance:
Two paper labels to the reverse, one reading '403'

A highly comparable decoration can be found on a plate illustrated by Christophe Perlès, La faience de Rouen, 1700-1750, cat.no. 76, page 237. This piece is part of a group of large plates which are all dated between 1736-1738.

Another large plaque of a similar size is in the Musée de la Céramique (formerly in the Musée des Beaux-Arts) in Rouen (inv.no. 288) decorated with Bérain lambrequins. This plaque is marked M and dated 1726 to the reverse.
