A fine late 17th century French tete de poupe travel clock

The baluster shaped case surmounted by a foliate mount over a bell and gadrooned cornice, the sides enriched with red tortoiseshell inlaid with brass and pewter foliate strapwork within foliate engraved brass borders, the glazed door with applied ormolu beaded border, lion paw mounts and foliate volutes, over the stiff leaf moulded base raised on toupee feet, the gilt Roman and Arabic dial with pierced gilt hands and later velvet backing, the two-train spring barrel movement with shaped plates united by baluster pillars, the verge escapement with short pendulum connected to a broad bridge (now lacking the balance), silk suspension and numbered outside countwheel strike on a bell. 30cm (12in)
