A Rare Tibetan Circular Cane Shield
Possibly 15th Century Or Later

Of coiled cane wrapped with slender split cane forming a domed shape and painted over the outer surface with black lozenge shapes against a red ground, central gilt-copper boss embossed as a blossom (gilding worn), and four circular copper mounts each engraved with foliage against a punched ground, the inside with cord suspension strap, and a grip formed from a section of bone
67 cm. diam.
