A French Hunting Sword
By Thomas A Paris, Mid-19th Century

With tapering double-edged blade formed with an etched serpent with chiselled head over its entire length on both sides, the forte etched with vines on both sides, hilt comprising shield-shaped side-guard, cross-guard and pommel-cap all etched en suite, the first centred on a vacant shield-shaped escutcheon, the last with threaded button, and swelling grip bound with steel wire, in original wood-lined black leather scabbard (scuffed) with shaped steel locket and chape etched en suite with the hilt, the former with maker's details in gothic script on one side, and belt hook on the other
