An Irish Mameluke-Hilted Officer's Sword
By I. Ireland, 7 Ellis Quay, Dublin, Mid-19th Century

With bright slightly curved pipe-back blade double-edged towards the point, the forte on each side etched with crowned 'VR' cypher and foliage, one side including maker's details, steel-mounted hilt comprising guard with button quillon terminals, grip, and ivory grip-scales retained by rivets with domed faceted steel heads, the pommel pierced for a bullion sword-knob (some fraying), in original steel scabbard (light pitting) with two rings for suspension
