A Rare Balkan 15-Bore All-Metal Flintlock Gun (Kariophili) With Nielloed Silver Stock
Circa 1840, Probably Boka

The barrel with sighting rib over most of its length to the muzzle, chiselled with a grotesque mask at the breech end, and retained by six shaped barrel bands each embossed and chased with foliate, the rear one incorporating a grooved foliate back-sight, breech chiselled in low relief with foliage, a martial trophy and the figure of Victory above a barrelsmith's mark, a tree between stars, three further marks 'DT' beneath, plain tang, flat bevelled lock lightly engraved with foliage and with roller, full stock and fish-tail butt profusely decorated overall in relief with cast and chased running foliage, flower-heads, scallop shells, trophies of arms and double-headed eagles, all against finely punched grounds, the fore-stock enriched with nielloed diamond-shaped panels, the butt with nielloed ribbon work and foliate borders, trigger-guard en suite, foliate trigger with monster-head, rectangular suspension loops, and original steel ramrod (barrel and lock with some wear and light pitting)
