A Turkish 28-Bore Miquelet-Lock Short Rifle (Shishana)
Late 18th Century

With slightly swamped octagonal sighted barrel of finely twist damascus pattern rifled with nine grooves and encrusted with symmetrical designs of engraved gold foliage at the muzzle and breech, the top flat at the breech with gold-lined maker's stamp inscribed 'Ali(?)' in nasta'liq, arched triple aperture back-sight, tang and characteristic lock encrusted with gold en suite with the barrel, the tang retaining some original blueing, figured Circassian walnut full stock inlaid along the fore-stock and around the lock with shaped green-stained bone panels enriched with brass nails and small roundels of brass and dark horn, the area around the tang en suite with some of the panels (one incomplete) left unstained, segmented flared faceted butt also en suite between unstained line borders and with a floret on each side, dark horn butt-plate, four silver barrel bands chased with foliage, gold-encrusted button trigger, green-stained fore-end cap inlaid with roundels, and original steel ramrod
