Early 19th Century, Probably Foca
With slightly recurved single-edged blade cut with a narrow fuller along the back on each side, the forte on both sides gold-damascened with decorative panels of foliage (some loss of gold and areas of pitting) now against a blued ground, one side involving two rectangular panels with owner's and maker's names respectively in thuluth, and a roundel centred on a star of Solomon and enclosing the names of the Seven Sleepers in thuluth, a shaped silver mount over the forte set with silver diamonds and pellets enriched with a red coral (corallium rubrum) bead on each side, silver hilt with grip-strap en suite and set with ten red coral beads and two nielloed panels, and 'eared' grips both set with a red coral bead centred on a silver filigree star of Solomon, all between twisted silver lines, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather (some damage) with wire seam along the inside and silver locket and deep chape, the former en suite with the hilt, the latter embossed and chased with scrolling foliage issuing from a fish's mouth along both sides, from a serpent's mouth on the back, and with monster-head terminal
