A Balkan Yataghan With Nielloed Silver-Gilt Mounts
Dated 1222 A.H. Corresponding To 1807 A.D.

With slightly recurved single-edged blade with narrow double fuller along the back on each side, one side gold-damascened with a large foliate panel enclosing four panels of Turkish poetic verses centred on a calligraphic star of Solomon inscribed with the names of the Seven Sleepers in thuluth, a shaped mount nielloed with foliage against a punched ground over the forte and chased with flowering foliage along the back, and grip with 'eared' pommel and decorated en suite overall, in original scabbard also en suite and involving minarets and martial trophies, pierced and nielloed locket, suspension loop, nielloed monster-head terminal, and much original gilding
