A Balkan Yataghan With Nielloed Silver Mounts
Dated 1245 A.H. Corresponding To 1829 A.D.

With slightly recurved single-edged blade (some pitting overall) cut with a narrow fuller within line borders along the back on each side, the forte on one side gold-damascened with a dated cartouche inscribed 'Work of Ibrahim' and 'Work of Minas' in nasta'liq, a shaped mount nielloed with foliage against a wrigglework ground over the forte, and silver grip with 'eared' pommel nielloed and chased overall with interlaced arabesques and foliage against wrigglework grounds, in original wood-lined silver scabbard with shaped locket and decorated en suite with the grip overall, small suspension loop now with a chain and filigree tassels, and plain bud-shaped terminal
