A Balkan Or Turkish Yataghan
Dated 1224 A.H. Corresponding To 1809 A.D.

With slightly recurved single-edged blade gold-damascened along the back on one side with a foliate panel inscribed with a blessing and prayers in thuluth, and along the other with a similar panel dated and inscribed with a blessing from the Prophet to the owner Khalil Agha in thuluth, a shaped beaded gilt-metal mount over the forte on each side, gilt-metal hilt with grip-strap en suite, and punched with flower-heads along each side and on the 'eared' pommel, in its wooden scabbard re-covered in black leather with wire seam along the inside, and deep silver locket and chape embossed and chased with designs of foliage along each side, the former centred on a flower-head and with foliate suspension loop, the latter centred on a star and with white-metal monster-head terminal
