The First By Robert Wogdon, London, Circa 1785, The Second By Galloway, London Silver Hallmarks For 1780, Maker's Mark Of John King

The first with russet barrel flared at the muzzle and indistinctly engraved 'London' in script along the breech flat, plain tang, signed border engraved flat lock (some pitting, cock replaced) with safety-catch, figured full stock (some bruising), plain brass butt-plate and trigger-guard, the latter with acorn finial, turned brass ramrod-pipes, and later brass-tipped ramrod, London proof marks and Wogdon's barrelsmith's mark; the second converted from flintlock, with shortened two-stage sighted barrel engraved with foliage at the breech and on the grooved tang, border engraved flat bevelled lock signed on a foliate scroll, foliate engraved stepped tail with sliding safety-catch, figured half-stock (reduced from full) carved with a shell behind the barrel tang and inlaid in silver wire with a trophy of arms opposite the lock (loses), pineapple chequered grip, engraved steel butt-plate and silver trigger-guard (repaired), the latter with shell and foliage finial, silver fore-end cap and ramrod-pipes, and later ramrod (steel parts pitted, worn overall), indistinct London proof marks (2)
