A Turkish Yataghan
Dated 1240 A.H. Corresponding To 1824 A.D.

With slightly recurved single-edged blade cut with thin medial line along the back flanked by a narrow fuller, one side gold-damascened along much of its length with a panel of symmetrical foliate scrollwork, and along the other with a similar panel enclosing three panels inscribed with owner's name 'Ali Aghazade Yusuf Agha', maker's name 'Umar' and 'There is no sword like Zulfikar', all in nasta'liq, a shaped silver-gilt filigree mount over the forte, hilt with grip-strap (slightly incomplete) en suite, and characteristic 'eared' walrus-ivory grips, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather with wire seam along the inside, and shaped white-metal locket and chape each embossed with foliage within foliate borders, the former with suspension loop, the latter with monster-head terminal
