A Turkish Yataghan
Dated 1244 A.H. Corresponding To 1828 A.D.

Similar to the last, the blade silver-damascened with long foliate panels on each side, those on one side dated, inscribed 'Work of Ahmed', with the owner's name 'Mehmed' and with Turkish verses all in thuluth, and on the other with a Qur'anic verse, a shaped silver mount over the forte embossed and chased with flower-heads, basal mount and grip-strap en suite, and 'eared' dark horn grip-scales (minor repairs), in its wooden scabbard covered in black leather with silver locket and chape each embossed and chased with symmetrical designs of foliage on both sides between borders of beadwork, the former (throat mount replaced) with foliate suspension loop, the latter with white-metal monster-head finial
