A Balkan Or Turkish Yataghan
Dated 1289 A.H. Corresponding To 1872 A.D.

With single-edged blade with slender medial line along the back for most of its length to the point flanked by two narrow fullers, one side at the forte with silver-damascened dated panel inscribed with maker's name 'Salih' and owner's name 'Ubayel' in thuluth, and on the other with a silver-damascened star, shaped foliate engraved white-metal mount over each side of the forte set with an imitation turquoise bead, and white-metal hilt cast and chased in low relief with vertical panels of foliage, the beaked pommel set with imitation rubies, small turquoise beads and a large imitation red coral on a filigree setting, in original wooden scabbard covered in black leather with wire seam along the inside, and white-metal locket and deep chape embossed and chased with scrolling foliage against a punched ground along each side, the former with suspension loop, the latter with bud-shaped terminal
