An Ottoman Jambiya
Black Sea Coast, Probably Trabzon, Late 19th Century

With curved double-edged blade cut with a central fuller within line borders over each side, the forte on both sides gold-damascened with a panel of Turkish verses between stylised foliage, the waisted hilt and wood-lined scabbard each profusely decorated over the outside with roped ovals and roundels set with fluted red corals (corallium rubrum) and turquoise beads, the inner sides embossed and chased with flowering foliage against punched grounds, the scabbard with foliate suspension loop, and bud-shaped terminal
