A Caucasian Kindjal
Late 19th Century

With sharply tapering double-edged blade of flattened diamond section incised with two indistinct marks on one side at the forte, the waisted hilt and wood-lined scabbard covered in nielloed silver finely embossed and chased in low relief on the outside with symmetrical scrolling foliage against a punched ground, the inner side of the former mounted in ivory secured by three nielloed silver studs, the latter open along the back and lined in black leather (some damage), hinged suspension mount decorated en suite, and spherical terminal; together with a large silver scabbard for a kindjal decorated in a similar fashion to the last, the outer side set with a silver disc chased and nielloed with the Imperial Russian arms, and a French 1816 model artillery sidearm of characteristic form (blade pitted), the brass hilt with scaled swelling grip, and a fleur-de-lys on each side of the pommel (3)
