A Composite Sabre
The Blade Late 17th Century

With broad curved fullered blade double-edged towards the point and retaining traces of etched decoration on both sides at the forte, hilt comprising slightly recurved line engraved quillons each with applied chiselled foliage draped over the top, quillon-block with a chiselled trophy of arms on each side, pommel chiselled in the round as a mustachioed helmeted head, the helmet with scaled chin-straps and foliate crest en suite with the quillons, and vertically fluted swelling grip bound with twisted steel wire between Turk's heads
