[and] came to legally untenable conclusions", c.1980); Tocqueville research receipts; quantities of galley and other proofs, most corrected by Mayer, some with fierce notes to the printers; prospectuses and advertising; considerable files from various publishers, including Gallimard, Schunemann, Arno Press, Harper, etc.; Mayer articles for encyclopaedias, book reviews and offprints; details of the Reading University Centre for Tocqueville Studies and the Tocqueville Association; transcripts, including both sides of correspondences of which sometimes only the Tocqueville side was published; masses of letters from fellow academics, and so on and so on.
