Issue number 3 is entirely devoted to the semiconductor, with articles by John Bardeen, Walter Brattain and William Shockley, who were jointly awarded the 1956 Nobel Prize in Physics for their work on the subject. Other issues includes Claude E. Shannon's 'The Synthesis of Two-Terminal Switching Circuits', and Bardeen and Brattain's 'Physical Principles Involved in Transistor Action'.
