Portrait of Emperor Alexander I of Russia Oil on canvas Unsigned 25 x 20 3/4in frame: 32 ¾ x 27 3/4in Emperor Alexander I (1777-1825) is depicted in regimental uniform wearing the sash and the star of Order of St. Andrew the First Called and miniature order of St. John of Jerusalem. Similar to known likeness of the Emperor, this portrait is reminiscent of the official portraits executed by Stepan Shchukin. PROVENANCE: The collection of Joseph Davies, Ambassador to the Soviet Union, 1936-1938
