Thence by descent

The stamp-pattern decoration, tombstone fields, tulip-flanked escutcheon and encircled compass-stars are frequently found on blanket chests from Dauphin County. A similar example is illustrated in Monroe H. Fabian, The Pennsylvania-German Decorative Chest, (Schiffer Publishing Co., Atglen, PA, 2004), p. 174. The early date on this example may suggest that the decorator was the father of the decorator of the later chests.

Elizabeth Lutz, whose name is abbreviated in the central tombstone panel, may be the daughter of Adam Lutz and Maria Rucht, who was born September 26, 1762.
