Signed William Allam, London, mid 18th century
The bell top case with leaf capped handle and four cone finials over a concave molded cornice, circular and shaped side apertures, all lined with brass, the front door with engraved brass foliate corner pieces, on a molded base with molded block feet, the 6 inch arched brass dial signed in a shaped plaque flanked by subsidiary dials for Strike/Silent and rise and fall regulation with engraved floral details over lacquered scroll and foliage spandrels, the silvered roman and arabic chapter ring enclosing a finely matted center with chamfered mock pendulum and date apertures, blued steel hands, the twin gut fusee movement with substantial plates united by five knopped pillars converted to anchor escapement, rack strike on a bell, the backplate signed to the center surrounded by foliate scrolls
