A pair of George III sterling silver covered vegetable dishes
Each with cartouche-form cover, engraved with a coat-of-arms within the Order of the Garter, with raised loop branch handle over conforming dish, engraved with the Order of the Garter, total weight approximately 91oz troy
height 6 1/4in (16cm); width 9 3/4in (24.75cm); depth 8 3/4in (22.25cm).
Footnotes
The covers later engraved for the Duke of Argyll with the arms of Campbell quartering Lorne within the Garter, ensigned by a ducal coronet and surmounting badges of honor for the hereditary offices of Grand Master of the Household in Scotland and Lord Justice General in Scotland.
The dishes likely engraved for Augustus, 3rd Duke of Grafton. He was born 1735, nominated Knight of the Garter 12 Dec 1768, installed 25 July 1771, died 14 March 1811. Royal princes use the initial of their Christian name in such circumstances, but non-royal peers generally use their titular initial. This Duke of Grafton was a 3rd generation illegitimate descendant from Charles II so he could have been following the royal pattern.
