NAMIKI: Emperor Birds in Flight Maki-e Fountain Pen
A wonderful pen of impressive size and appearance. As noted by Namiki, "The Birds in Flight design is executed in the charcoal burnished Togadashi-maki-e technique... a method in which gilded patterns are dried, recoated with urushi, and finally burnished to a high sheen using charcoal. This style of Maki-e dates to the 7th century. The spreading of gold dust on a precise area and to a desired density is a skill which requires great expertise and experience." Medium 18K two-tone gold nib with Mount Fuji insignia, large #50 size. Outer box, wooden display box, eyedropper, certificate of authenticity. No limitation stated, although Namiki describes the pen as having "very limited production."
