[MAKI-E]. Two Japanese Black Lacquer Boxes, Suitable for Pen Storage, c.1920s

Pair of Japanese boxes, black lacquer over wood, not specifically made for pen storage but well-suited for this function. Both approx. 3"x4"x10". Each with three maki-e vignettes on the lid and copious gold dust maki-e on the inner panels and outer bottom panels. One box has two custom slotted pen trays added. Both have locking mechanisms but no keys. Generally very good, some wear.
